In order to best treat a specific issue, Amanda's evaluation involves a global assessment, including taking a thorough history involving past medical issues, trauma and prior surgeries. With almost two decades of orthopedic experience alone, Amanda has seen first-hand how interconnected the body is. Assessing areas above and below the region of compliant has yielded successful, long-term results, especially in cases of chronic dysfunction.
Beyond the traditional physical therapy interventions, she employs expert-level manual therapy techniques to address and correct tissue dysfunction, with a focus on John F. Barnes' Myofascial Release (JFB MFR) approach. In addition to extensive continuing education under John's direct tutelage, Amanda has completed hundreds of hours of one-on-one intensive mentoring with experts trained directly by John Barnes. Amanda utilizes exercise to re-educate, stabilize and strengthen tissues, thereby preventing re-injury.
Success with therapy is largely dependent upon utilizing a team approach to treatment. Open communication facilitates achieving your therapeutic goals and is encouraged. You will be given a home program specially designed to address your specific issues. Incorporating these exercises into your daily life will improve your success. If there are difficulties or barriers with your home program, please discuss this with Amanda so you can achieve your most functional outcome.
To provide the most thorough assessment, the body needs to be properly visualized. The best attire to wear is something comfortable, such as a pair of shorts and T-shirt (ladies, please also bring a sports bra or bathing suit top). As treatment usually involves palpation of skin, please refrain from using lotion on days you will have treatment, as this negatively affects treatment.
